If you want to keep driving your car after your manufacturer’s warranty expires, an extended warranty (or vehicle service contract) can protect you from high repair costs. You’re likely familiar with Allstate’s auto insurance, but the company also offers an Extended Vehicle Care program.
Below, we explain Allstate Vehicle Service Contract coverage, costs, and more. We will also compare it with leading providers like Endurance, which is rated highly in our recent review of the best car warranty companies.

According to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), Allstate is one of the largest auto insurers in the nation, holding over 10 percent of the market share. While it’s widely known as a reputable car insurance provider, we feel that its vehicle service contracts leave something to be desired.
Allstate Extended Vehicle Care is available online or through select dealerships. We like how Allstate customers can get low rates on the company’s long-term protection plans. However, there are only three plans to choose from, and the company does not sell its extended vehicle products in California and Massachusetts.
See the table below for a breakdown of our overall rating for Allstate’s vehicle service contracts.

Since Allstate is primarily an insurance provider, it’s easy to find reviews for its insurance services and tougher to find reviews for its vehicle service contracts. In general, those who post positive reviews of Allstate’s Extended Vehicle Care are longtime policyholders. Negative reviews typically focus on a slow claims process or certain repairs not being covered. Of course, it’s always important to study your service contract carefully to understand your specific coverage.
Allstate Insurance company has been in business for over 90 years. Headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois, it offers auto, home, renters, condo, motorcycle, life insurance, and more to consumers. Allstate states that with them, “you’re in good hands.”
Allstate vehicle service contracts aren’t administered by the insurance giant–the company uses Pablo Creek Services, Inc. to administer the contracts and First Colonial Insurance Company to insure them. While they aren’t Allstate, both companies are within the Allstate family of companies.
Pros Transferrable Low $50 deductible Cons No eligibility in California and MassachusettsAllstate Extended Vehicle Care plans are designed to stretch basic limited and powertrain warranty plans, giving you up to seven years and 100,000 miles of protection. There are three customizable levels of coverage: Powertrain, Core Systems, and Comfort & Tech. Every Allstate vehicle service contract comes with various perks, which we’ll detail in the sections below. You can also choose from additional protection plans that cover tires and wheels, paint and fabrics, and more. However, note that these coverage options can vary by dealership, state, and lender.
Allstate Extended Vehicle Care Plan | Details |
---|---|
Powertrain | Provides coverage for components related to the engine, transmission, drive axles–parts that keep your car in motion. |
Core Systems | This protects your vehicle’s main mechanical and electrical systems, including the alternator, brakes, steering, suspension, fuel system, and engine cooling. Note that with this plan, powertrain components aren’t covered. |
Comfort & Tech | Comfort features like air conditioning and heating systems, technology such as cruise control, power windows, and blind spot warning systems are covered. |
Allstate notes that additional plans may be available at a dealership, and deductibles may range from $0 to $200 depending on your choice of protection.
Like other extended warranties, Allstate Extended Vehicle Care plans don’t cover car repairs for damage from accidents, wear and tear items like brake pads, or parts that fail due to lack of routine maintenance. Damage incurred from unauthorized repairs also isn’t covered. Allstate’s vehicle service contracts are designed to cover specified components against mechanical breakdowns that occur through normal use.
There are several other protection plans providing repair coverage that are available through Allstate. You’ll need to check with your dealership or Allstate representative to make sure they’re available in your area. See more details in the table below.
Allstate Vehicle Protection Plan | Details |
---|---|
Tire And Wheel Protection | Tire and wheel replacements are covered if damage is caused by a road hazard. This also covers the costs of valve stems, tire pressure sensors, and the disposal of a broken wheel or damaged tire. |
Paint And Fabric Defense | Protection is applied to your used or new car’s paint, fabric, leather, vinyl, and carpet to keep it safe from stains, damage, and the like. |
Complete Protection | A combination protection package aimed at providing comprehensive coverage, this includes key fob protection, ding and dent protection, windshield and tire repairs, roadside services, and more. Coverage depends on the coverage tier you choose–Platinum, Gold, or Silver. |
Guaranteed Asset Protection | Guaranteed Asset Protection–also known as GAP–pays the difference between an insurance settlement and what you owe on your vehicle in the event of a total loss. |
Excessive Wear And Tear | This provides up to $5,000 of coverage if, at the end of your lease, you’re charged for damages such as exterior dings, scratches, chips, interior stains, and more. |
Theft Deterrent | This makes your vehicle harder to steal but easier to recover in the event of a theft. If your car is stolen under this protection and not recovered within 30 days, Allstate will provide you with up to $5,000 in compensation. |
It’s tough to get a read on the cost of Allstate’s vehicle service contracts because they’re sold at select dealerships and costs aren’t advertised online. Prices vary according to your vehicle type and mileage, the coverage level you choose, and the various deductible options you might have (Allstate policyholders are locked into a $50 deductible).
To give you an idea of what the average extended warranty costs, we’ve gathered quotes from the top-rated providers in our industry-wide review. According to our research, average car warranty costs $977 per year of coverage. Of course, this cost varies by level of coverage. See the table below for a breakdown by plan type.
Extended Warranty Type | Yearly Coverage Costs |
---|---|
Exclusionary | $1,005 |
Mid-Level | $937 |
Powertrain | $953 |
Allstate is an established company with decades of experience and different coverage options. However, Allstate doesn’t sell vehicle service contracts in California or Massachusetts. If you live in these states, you will have to buy your extended warranty coverage from another company.
Also, Allstate sells service contracts only to existing customers or through select dealerships. This rules out many people who are looking to buy coverage independent of a dealer and aren’t current customers. We suggest exploring your options before settling on an extended warranty plan. This way, you’ll find the right coverage that suits your needs.
If you decide to explore third-party extended car warranty providers, we suggest that you compare quotes from multiple companies. We recommend that you include Endurance and CarShield, two of our highest-rated providers, in your search.
